MATCHES ON SATURDAY. SUPERIORITY OF THE BOWLERS. In all the games.played in the Ashburton Cricket Association’s competition on Saturday the outstanding feature was the marked ' superiority of the bowlers. While only two batsmen: Walker (67 not out) and Gilbertson (44). —made substantial scores, four bowlers had successes. They were: Rabone (Air Force), 7 wickets for 16 runs; S. Kerr (Ashburton), 5 for 15; Dey (Brigade), 5 for 22; and Neal (Brigade), 6 for 28.

Air Force won by 21 runs over Ashburton. This was largely due to the bowling by Rabone, who took 7 wickets for 16 runs off 14 overs, seven of which were maidens. Batting first, Air Force made 76 to which Ashburton replied with 55. Robinson (20),

Gilbert (19), and Dyhrberg (12), were the best Air Force batsmen, while for Ashburton N. Lawson made 13. S. Kerr, 5 wickets for 15, was the best bowler for Ashburton. 44

An Easy Win for Brigade

Engineers fell easy victims to * the bowling of Brigade’s star bowlers, Dey and Neal, being defeated by an innings and 87 runs. In their fiist innings, Engineers were dismissed for 36 runs. Brigade made 178 and Engineers were all out for 55 in theii second innings. In Engineers’ first innings, Dey took 5 wickets foi 22 runs and Miller took 3 for 12. Neal carried on the good work in the second innings, taking 6 for 28 runs. For Engineers Peach took 3 wickets foi 26 runs. Plunket 3 for 59. Mason, (12) not out and Plunket (10) were the best scorers for Engineers in their first innings, while in their second innings Riach made 21 and Hulme 10. Contributions of 67 runs not out and 44 were made to Brigade’s tally by Walker and Gilbertson respectively. Walker hit 2 sixes and 9 fours, while Gilbertson hit one 6 and seven 4’s.
