RED CROSS SOCIETY.

THE WAKANUI SUB-BRANCH. The Wakanui sub-branch of the Red Cross Society at its monthly meeting received letters of thanks from the Field Ambulance for gifts of cakes, vegetables, magazines, etc; also a letter from Trooper Gluestein expressing thanks for the parcel from the comfort fund. r Mrs D. Wilson was elected secretary in place of Miss Trixy Butte>rick, who resigned after being three years in office. Miss Buttorick was presented with a posy of flowers, the best wishes Of members being expressed l '. It was reported that 11 members had supplied cakes for military hospitals during the month. Mrs Wilson spoke on the Emergency Precautions Services, and arm-bands were given: out to various sections of the voluntary aids. It was reported that eight soldiers were farewelled during the month, each being presented with a parcel of comforts from the comforts fund.

The president (Mrs F. Butterick) thanked members for knitting and gifts of coupons for wcol; also the, members of the Junior Red Cross who supplied knitted articles. It was reported that another box of clothing for refugees had been sent overseas..

Reference to the recent promotion of Major lan Bonifant to lieutenantcolonel was made by the president, and it was decided to send congratulations to himself and family.

It was reported that a quilt for the military hospital had been made by a member.

The president reported on the. recent meeting of delegates. It was decided to hold a sales table next meeting to assist with funds for the depleted comforts fund. Mrs Dick and Mrs Watson were appointed in charge of the table. Afternoon tea was served by Mesdanies W. Hydes and J. Anderson. The following articles were handed in a.s tiie result of the monthly activities:—Five A.F. pullovers, one A.F. L.S. pullover, two Navy scarves, four ■khaki scarves, three khaki socks, four A.F. speck socks, two khaki mittens, one A.F. mittens, nine khaki balaclavas, seven hlmki skull-caps, four ditty bags, two lace clotlis, three tray cloths, seven kneeling pads, two children’s frocks, two pairs boy's pants for refugees.
