RED CROSS SOCIETY.
THE! RAKAIA SUB-BRANCH. It was reported by the president (Mrs; E. B. ,Stevenson) at the monthly meeting of the Rakaia sub-branch ol the Red Cross Society that gilts had been provided for sick and wounded soldiers passing through Rakaia. It was decided to send a donation to the Disaster Relief Fund, also to the. Ashburton Centre toward a spinal chair presented to the 'North Canterbury Hospital Board for the use ol badly injured returned soldiers. The committee expressed approval of the president’s action in helping, at short notice, with a prisoner-01-war parcel for a local soldier. The committee agreed to take over the responsibility of these parcels in future. Mrs ,f. Cornelius was elected a member of tin' committee. 'Die sub-committee met subsequently to arrange lor a quilt lor a soldiers hospital to be embroidered with the names of residents willing: to pay for the privilege. ’l’he Hewing Circle 1 , which meets on Friday afternoons at the depot, is. as instructed by the Dominion Executive, building up a supply of clothing in ease of emergency in their own area.
