MATCHES ON SATURDAY The Ashburton Cricket Association’s competitions were continued on Saturday in fine weather with a cold southerly wind blowing. Details were; — ASHBURTON v. KIA ORA. Performances in the main senior match at the Domain Oval between Ashburton and Kia Ora were mediocre, few of the batsmen making any stand while the bowling was also not of a high standard. Ashburton won on the first innings by 80 runs to 66. In the second innings the Ashburton team’s batting improved, 89 having been compiled for the loss of five wickets. Details: —

UNITED j. TECHNICAL Good all-round performances by M. Wall and A. McCormack were responsible for Technical’s good win over United (Methven) at Methven. In their first strike United made only 59 of which P. Watson made a steady 30 before going down to Wall’s bowling. Four of the team failed to score, proving that bowlers were on top throughout the innings. Opening for Technical McCormack and Wall made a good stand of 96 before the partnership was broken. McCormack hit hard to secure his 45, while Wall played a very steady innings for 43. C. Keen’s 17 and A. W. Holland’s 15 were ttm next best scores to Technical’s total of 154. Bowling for Technical Wall obtained the very good figures of 7 wickets for 17 runs, McCormack taking the remaining

three wickets for 38. A. Roberts, for United took three for 6, T. Owers two for 62, C. Dacre one for 32, F. Kane one for 7, and L. Hayman one for none.

Green 26, J. Kelly*l7, and R. Purcell 15, being the/highest scorers. Lauriston replied with 166, to" which J. Mackie contributed 81 not out, and D. Smith 20. Bowling for Lauriston W. Goodwin took five for 67, R. Ashworth two for 18, and R. Prebble two for 15, while for High School. W. Hosking took four for 51 and C. Reeves, six for 55. Batting confidently K. Campbell contributed largely to Tinwald's five-point win over United (Methven), United 'went in first and were all out for the small total of 59, J. Cretney with 2p being the only double-figure scorer. Campbell carried his bat for 74 in Tinwald’s innings which produced 150 before it declared with nine wickets down. W. Merrin made 29 runs and P. Borwn 16. United made a poorer showing in the second strike, being all out for 46, W. Hart 11 making the best stand. W. Merrin (Tinwald) was a thorn in - the side of United. He took eight wickets for 37 runs in the first innings of United and seven for 22 in the second. A. Rodd averaged two for nine and W. Thomas three for 19. For United S. Smith took four for 30 and J. Cretney five for 83.

CHRISTCHURCH MATCHES. (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, Nov. 30. The seventh round of matches in the Canterbury Cricket Association’s competitions was played on Saturday oil fast wickets, but with a bitterly cold wind. Some of the fastest scoring in one-day matches was seen when Old Boys made 303 in 125 minutes and Lancaster Park 213 in 131 minutes. Two centuries were made, F. B. Smith getting 109 not out in 94 minutes and M. Cummings 102 for St. Albans in 75 minutes. The most brilliant effort was that of V. C, Empson, for Lancaster Park, his 92 not out taking 08 minutes. Scores: Old Boys 303 for three wickets declared (Smith iO9 not out, including nine fours and three sixes, Hadlee 83) drew with St. Albans 235 for seven wickets (Cummings 102, including 13 fours and two sixes, Sugden 30 not out; Anderson three for 43). Sydenham 171 for nine wickets (Roberts four for 55) beat Riccarton 169 (Cullen 54, Andrews 51; Greatbatch four for 44, Mahoney three for 47, Shaw three for 65) on the first innings. Lancaster Park 312 for five wickets declared (Empson 92 not out including 12 fours and two sixes, Cromb 58, Stout 50) drew with Army 197 for nine wickets (Miller 43, Milnes -40, Patrick 35; Oromb five for 91). East Christchurch 231 for seven wickets declared (Blight 9-5, in 80 minutes, including 14 fours and three sixes, James 44) beat Air Force 129 (Milne 34, Davis five for 48, Kennedy four for 44) on the first innings. West Old Boys 209 for six wickets declared (Bosley 77) drew with West Christchurch* 142 for eight wickets (Agor 53).

MATCHES AT TIMARU. Fail-view 124 (Fawcett 35 not out; Soutnr three for 26, Davies four for 29, Moore two for 15) beat Old Boys 72 (Stevens three for 22, Rogers four for 41, Styles two for 4). High School 58 for eight (unfinished) drew with Temuka 165 for seven, declared. Timaru 157 (Ewart 81; Stack five for 46) beat West End 128 (Gould five for 57, Green four for 42).
