HEAVILY BOMBED.
OBJECTIVES IN GERMANY. STRONG FORCE ENGAGED. (Rec. 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 21. Ports in North-West Germany were heavily bombed by the Royal Air Force in bettor weather last night. Bremen was the main target, but Wilhelmshaven and Emden was also strongly attacked and there were several minor raids at other points. 'Nine R.A.F. bombers are missing.
The' force engaged was a strong one —more than seven times the size of the German force operating against Britain during the night. The Coastal Command yesterday attacked a seaplane base and factory in Northern Denmark. Hits were scored on buildings, ancl an enemy aircraft was sot on fire. An anti-aircraft ship, military buildings, gun positions, and a radio station on the Cherbourg peninsula were attacked by R.A.F. fighters during an offensive sweep yesterday afternoon, reports the Air Ministry. One pilot who took part in the attack on the anti-aircraft ship said the boiler must have exploded, because a terrific explosion occurred amidships, throwing lu’s Spitfire up 50 feet. TWELVE ENEMY DESTROYED. COST OF NINE BRITISH PLANES. (Rec. 9.40 a.m.) LONDON, Oct. 21. Twelve enemy fighters were destroyed during an offensive sweep by our fighters over Northern France this morning. Nine of our fighters are missing, but the pilots of at least three are safe.—British Official Wireless.
