PACE SLOWED DOWN
NAZI DRIVE ON MOSCOW ITS FORCE NOT SPENT STUBBORN RESISTANCE MET (United Press Association —Copyright.) (Rec. 9.45 a.m.) ‘ LONDON, October 20. There is no indication v that substantial geographical movements have taken place in the last 24 hours on the Russian front, where, along the whole line from Orel to Kalinin, Russian resistance continues with counter-attacks most marked in the Kalinin area. There is no definite information as to who actually holds Kalinin and Orel. A Russian communique states: “Particularly fierce fighting occurred in the Mojaisk and Malo Yaroslavet directions. Thirtyeight German planes were destroyed on Saturday. We lost 17.” Authoritative circles in London are of opinion that while the German drive on Moscow appears to have been slowed down in a geographical sense, there is no evidence that its force has been spent. The Germans’ claim that they have captured Taganrog lacks confirmation, buT, if true, the capture would undoubtedly increase the danger to Rostov. —British Official Wireless.
