INDIGNATION ROUSED.
ATTACK ON AMERICAN WARSHIP ISOLATIONISTS WEAKENED. (Rec. 11.50.) NEW YORK, Oct. 20. *
The Navy report of casualties on the destroyer Kearney, which was attacked by a submarine, undoubtedly German, oh Friday morning, caused a blaze of indignation against Germany in official circles says the Washington correspondent of the New York “Sun.” To damage an American warship is one thing, to kill American seamen is something else. The incident has already weakened the isolationist forces in Congress. Three Republican Senators, Messrs Bridges, Austin and Gurney, to-day introduced a Bill to repeal the entire Neutrality Act.
ELEVEN OF THE CREW MISSING. TEN OTHERS RECEIVE INJURY. ■ • i WASHINGTON, October 19. The United States. Navy has announced that the destroyer Kearney has reached port. The destroyer has reported that 11 members of the crew are missing, one is critically injured, one is seriously injured and eight are suffering from minor injuries and are in no danger. It is supposed that the Kearney has docked in Iceland. This is the first message from her since she was torpedoed on Friday. It was previously believed that no one was injured. The fact that no lifeboats were launched is taken to mean that those missing were blown overboard.
