BASKETBALL.
TWO WINS FOR ASHBURTON. TEMUKA SUFFER DEFEAT. Ashburton scored a double win over Temuka when representative basketball matches in the senior and junior grades were played at the Ashburton Domain on Saturday. Handling and passing accurately on a very slippery ground Ashburton won the senior game by 15 goals to 7. Both Sides gave a better exhibition of basketball than might have been expected under the conditions, although Ashburton’s win was a convincing one. The co-operation and understanding of the three attacks (B. Stone, J ! . Uockrolt and S. McMillan) was a deciding factor, and the soundness of the Ashburton team in defence kept their opponent’s score down.
Tiie referee was Mr S. G. .Macfarlane The teams were:—
Ashburton—l. McLennan (captain), B. Stone, J. Cocla'oft, S. McMillan, J. Spedding, M. White, H. Grice, H. Bell, I. Chapman. Temuka—M. Ives (captain), G. Hanifan, E. Woffenden, D. Struthers, M. France, J. Trumper, P. P. Liskie, A. Christie, E. Struthers.
