(United Press Association —Copyright.) (Rec. 12.5 p.m.) LONDON, Aug. 26. Diving low over an enemy aerodrome near Cherbourg to-day a fighter pilot saw a bomber being serviced inside the hangar,. He, headed his plane straight -tor "the open doors, firing all the time. “Men appeared to fall out of that Junkers from all angles,” said the pilot afterwards. This was only one incident in the attack on the aerodrome in which ■Whirlwinds as well as Spitfires took part. A number of bombers parked round the landing ground were set on fire. A line of Messerschmitt 100’s was shot up. The attack was such a surprise to the enemy that hot a single fighter was encountered in the air by our forces.
' More fighters escorted bombers on a raid bn' shipping off the coast of Holland and others attacked shippingon the coast of France. On a Belgian aerodrome the pilot of a South African Spitfire saw foiu* MeSserschmitt 109’s lined up and gave them a long burst with cannon and / ifiachine-guns. He saw one collapse and turn over on its Wing.
It is learned in London that aircraft of the Bomber Command, some of which were escorted by fighters and aircraft of the Fighter Command, today attacked enemy shipping off the French, Dutch and German coasts and aerodromes in German-occupied France. Reports so far received show as ; the result of these attacks two enemy ships were sunk.
