MEAT CANNING
MACHINERY FROM AMERICA. ' BUILDINGS TO BE ERECTED. (P.A.) WELLINGTON, July 19. Meat canning for export is likely to be a substantial factor in operations for the coming season. The necessity for the development of the. canning industry has Peon stressed, and the Minister for Agriculture (the Hon. ,!. G. Barclay) was asked to-day what progress had been, made. Mr Barclay said machinery for canning primary products was on order from the United States at a cost -of between £40,000 and £50,000'. Buildings for this industry were being constructed in association with exportfreezing works which would cost in, the region of £200,000. “The is responsible for this expenditure,” added the Minister, “and these facilities will be available in time for tlie coining export season.”
