HEAVY PENALTY
MOTORIST FAILS TO STOP. SIEQUEL TO AN ACCIDENT. FINED £IOO, DELI CENSED FOR 10 YEARS. (P.A.) CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. A fine of £IOO was imposed on Harold James Kernahan, who appeared in the Supreme Court for sentence on three charges of failing to stop after an accident. In addition, Mr Justice Northcroft cancelled Kernahan’s driving licence for 10 years. Counsoli said there was no suggestion that Kernahan was hogging the road or that alcohol had any bearing on the case. Kernahan suddenly saw a small car parked on the side of the road in front of him arid swerved out. Ivernahan’s car struck the other a glancing blow. Two girls beside the parked car were thrown to the ground. Driving on to his home some hundreds of yards away Kernahan was discussing the accident with his wife when his daughter, one of the young women hurt in the accident, was brought in, Kernahan, who was 53 years of age, had an un? blemished record. “In your own interests I think you should never drive again,’’ said the Judge, after imposing the fine, “and-1 propose to make it difficult for you. 1 '
