CLOSE VOTING.
IN BOROUGH COUNCIL ISSUE.
CAREFUL SCRUTINY NECESSARY
As a result of the official count- of votes in the Ashburton Borough Council election on Saturday the Returning Officer (Air R. C. Alajor) has made certain changes in the figures announced after tho preliminary count on Saturday evening. In two cases tho voting is very close and Air Alajor is going carefully into all the papers before making his final count. These figures should b? known by to-morrow. The scrutiny of the rolls used in the booths has been-completed and it has revealed what looks like-'cases of dual voting by electors. These have necessitated a very close investigation and qs the work is complicated, the official count of votes is being slightly delayed. Air Alajor stated to-day that he could not- say more about the eases till he Had gone fully into the question. Tho scrutiny of the rolls used in the County sections of the elections was started this morning and when it has been completed the final count of votes will start.
