CAPACITY OF 600,000 FRY.
THE ACCLIMATISATION SOCIETY.
The Ashburton Acclimatisation Society’s hatchery at Timvald is ready for the 1911 hatching-season, according to a report of the .Ranger-Curator (Mr L\f. Otton) at the monthly meeting oi the Council of the Society last evening.
Extensive alterations have boon made to the interior of. tho hatchery. Four new boxes have been made, bringing the total number of batching boxes to 128, capable of batching 000,000 fry or more With the new pumping facilities, seven gallons of water pass through the boxes in a minute.
The report stated that the salmon fishing this year bad not been very good, owing to tho rivers being discoloured most of the time, although the lakes had fished well, some limit bags being taken in the early part of the season.
It was decided to hold-the annual meeting on Tuesday, May 27. The chairman (Mr J, I>onn) presided.
