VALEDICTORY SOCIAL.
PRESENTATION AT MARONAN. A very pleasant evening was spent in the Maronan Hall when residents of Maronan and Lismore assembled to farewell Mr and Mrs J. Whiting and family, who are taking up residence in Ashburton .after having resided at Maronan for many years. Mr and Mrs Whiting had been of great assistance in many ways in their district, taking a prominent part in patriotic affairs. Mr Whiting was well known in all the surrounding districts for supplying music for dancing.
On behalf of residents Mr Galletly after endorsing the previous speakers’ remarks, presented Mr and Airs Whiting with two easy chairs, a hearth rug, and a dinner waggon as a token of respect and esteem of residents. Miss Alary Whiting received a bedroom clock.
On behalf of the local Women’s Institue Airs E. Davis presented the usual silver spoon to Airs Whiting. Cards were played during the first part of the evening. The prize-winners being Mrs P. Ruck and Air J. Prendorgast. Supper preceded the presentation after which a dance was held to music supplied hy Air C. Corbet, with extras by Mr C. Sparrow. Air AI. Davidson was M.C.
