BASKETBALL.

THE ASHBURTON ASSOCIATION .

ELECTION OF OFFICERS The success of the season in Ashburton last year was reviewed in the report presented to the annual meeting of the; Ashburton Basketball Association held last evening, when the president (Mr S. G. Macfarlane) presided over a good attendance. The report stated that 32 teams took part in the competitions and the results were: —Senior A, Tinwald; Senior B, Technical High School; Junior A, Methven; Junior B, Tinwald; knockout competitions, Tinwald, Technical High School, Laghmor, Mayfield. Representative matches against other associations resulted: Canterbury B, lost 10-18; Canterbury C, won 10-7; Temuka A, won 17-9; Temuka B, won 21-18; Lincoln A, lost 16-17; Lincoln R, won 17-9. A senior representative team was sent to the Dominion tournament at Wellington at Easter,- and although not successful in winning its section, acquitted itself with credit to the Association.

The statement of receipts and expenditure disclosed a small credit balance', and it was noted that at. the commencement of the season the committee decided to allocate the levy paid each Saturday by the players to the country clubs as a travelling allowance, which accounted fosr an amount of £l2, being divided .between Methven, Rokeby, Rakaia, Hinds, Laghinor, Lynnford and Lauriston. All travelling expenses of representative teams were paid by the Association. After the , close of the season the pavilion was painted and presented a much improved appearance. The s report concluded with a comprehensive vote of thanks. Officers were elected as followPatroness, Mrs A. N. Grigg; president, Mr S'. G. Macfarlane; vice-presidents, Miss I. Chamberlain, Mrs G. Moore, Mrs J. B. Cullen, Miss Piper, Messrs G. Bowman, W. Crawford, E. A. Cockroft, A. M. Meredith, the Rev. A. McKean and the Rev. O. L. Mountfort; . hon. secretary, Miss C. A. McLennan; delegate to Sports Association, Mr A. M. Meredith; hon. auditor, Mr W. Crawford. It was decided that entries for competitions should close on April 21 and the competitions start on April 26.
