NO RELIEF TO COUNTRY
ONLY 11 POINTS OF RAIN FINE AND SUNNY TO DAY Eleven points of rain fell in Ashburton yesterday afternoon and the weather to-day, although cooler, was again fine and sunny. A light drizzle continued for most of the afternoon, but conditions cleared before last evening. The few points will in no way relievo the. dry state of the country and with a few hours of warm north-west winds conditions will be as parched as ewer. The maximum temperature, yesterday was 75.9 degrees, compared with 87.4 on Wednesday. The minimum was 4(4.2 degrees last night after the unusually high temperature of 69 the previous night. The barometer was up to 29.95 inches this morning, from 29.47 inches yesterday. TO-DAY’S FORECAST. ' . WELLINGTON, This Day. The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General situation: An anticyclone centred in the Tasman Sea extends on to Now Zealand. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows : Light to moderate and variable winds with sea breezes on the coast. Weather fine but morning low cloud or fog. Moderate temperatures. Seas slight.
