NEW POST OFFICE.
WORK ON THE URGENT LIST ADVICE. TO COUNTY COUNCIL The contract for the building of a new Post Office in Ashburton has been placed on tho urgent- list of works to be attended to by the Public Works Department, but defence needs have shelved the work in the meantime. Advice to this effect was received by the Ashburton, County Council to-day from the Minister of Public Works (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) through Mrs A. N. Grigg (acting on behalf of Captain A. N. Gx-igg, M;.P.), and Mr S. G. Holland, M.P. The Council some time ago made representations regarding the work and the letter received from the Minister to-day stated that while the work had been placed on the urgent list, defence needs must come first. It could not be stated when the work would be started or what its place on the list, but it would be proceeded with as soon as possible.
