HOME GUARD WINTER PARADES COUNTY COUNCIL INQUIRY A decision to ascertain the cost of providing flood-lighting for use of the Home Guard in the district and to approach the Minister of Manpower with the figures obtained, with a view to obtaining assistance, was made by the. Ashburton County Council to-day. This decision was reached after Mr J. Carr had stated that the Metliven Homo: Guard would require lighting in the winter.

The chairman (Mr S. P. Taylor) said that the Council had a responsibility to help the Homo Guard in every possible way. “If the matter should he brought before the Government then we ought to' do it,” he’ said. The County Clerk (Mr G. Kelly) said that the cost of providing lighting would be beyond the Council.
