WOMEN’S DIVISION.

ROSE SHOW AT MAYFIELD P Tli© monthly meeting of the Mayfield branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union was held yesterday afternoon when the president (Mi’s J. D. Murdoch) 'presided over a fail* attendance. It w’as decided that members spend a day at “Stratheona” on Thursday* January 16. A display of Christmas novelties was given by members. The roll call, “Recipes for cold sweets,” was well responded to. The motto was “A rose to the living is more than sumptuous wreaths to the dead.” The golden thread talk, on “Queen Elizabeth,” was giveu by Mrs W. J. Robertson.

A rose show was held. The champion bloom, exhibited by Mrs G. J. Murdoch, was an “Empire Queen.” Results were: —Champion bloom: Mrs G. J. Murdoch ]., Mrs 11. Oakley 2, Mrs J. ID'. Murdoch 3. Three varieties: Mrs G. J. Murdoch 1, Mrs J. D. Murdoch 2, Mrs R. Oakley 3. Polyanthus roses: Mrs J. 11. Murdoch 1, Mrs G. J‘. Murdoch 2. Bowl: Mrs G. J. Murdoch 1, Mrs J. D. Murdoch. 2, Mrs E. Oakley 3. The monthly competitions resulted: Bloom: Mrs 11. Oakley 1, Mrs J. D. Murdoch 2, Mrs G. J. Murdoch 3. Lettuces: Mrs J. D. Murdoch 1, Mrs R. Currie. 2, Mrs A. Murdoch 3. The hostesses were Mrs Ellery and Miss L. Robertson.
