DREDGE TO RESUME.
MINISTER APPOINTS TRIBUNAL. i (Per Press Association). GREYMOUTH, December 4. Work on the Ngahere dredge, which has been idle since November 25 after notices of dismissal by the company to the men who did not work on King’s Birthday, will he resumed to-morrow on an assurance by the .Minister for Labour (the Hon. P. ('. Webb) that a tribunal, with Mr J. A. Gilmour (industrial Magistrate) as chairman, will sit at Grevmouth on Saturday.
The president of the Federation of Labour (Mr A. McLagan) has indicated in a message to the support committee set up by the Westland Gold Dredge Workers’ Union and the West Const Trades and Labour Council, that the Federation, alter considering the facts, expressed the opinion that the men’s action was justified. It is understood that the terms of the re-engagement, of the men will not include the condition that a satisfactory settlement of the question of statutory and other holidays be reached beforehand. Jt was stated to-night on behalf of tin? men that they were resuming on an assurance by the Federation of Labour that they acted correctly’ and a further assurance of the Federation’s support.
