HUNTING THE RAIDER.

FAST LINER REQUISITIONED.

A REPORT FROM MANILA. f (United Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 1.40 p.m.) MANILA, December 2. Travellers from Hong Kong, considered very reliable, said that the British Government had requisitioned'the liner Empress of Russia on Thursday on the eve of' sailing and she disembarked all her passengers. It is reported that the ship will be used as an auxiliary cruiser, hunting the German raider in the South Pacific. The Empress of Russia is very fast, but is unarmoured. However, United States naval experts express the opinion that she could be heavily armed with four-inch guns, by means of the facilities at Hong Kong, within two weeks.
