THE COUNTY ASSOCIATION INVITATION TO THE WEST COAST
The West Coast Cricket Association is to be invited to send a representative team to play Ashburton at Ashburton on January 1 and 2 in the Minor Association’s trophy competition, according to a decision reached by the Management Committee of the Ashburton County Association last evening. The president (Mr R. H. Biggar) presided. Mr G. V. Furby (manager) reported on the senior and junior matches played against South Canterbury on Christchurch Show Day.
The Kia Ora Club was granted permission to play against Linwood at Christchurch on January 1 and 2. The Ashburton Patriotic Committee asked that all sports be postponed on Saturday because of the street lair being held on that date. It was decided to take no action as many of the players were from the country and this was a Borough effort, and again the cricket would bring people into Ashburton who otherwise might not come. An appeal was made to cricketers to support the effort.
In view of the holidays it was agreed to postpone all matches on December 28 and January 4.
