THE WEATHER.
RECORD TEMPERATURE TO-DAY.
Brilliant sunshine shone down from a cloudless sky in Ashburton to-day. The temperature was warm and conditions generally were ideal. The record maximum temperature for the season was registered, the reading being 81.5 degrees at 2.30 p.m. to-day. The previous highest reading was recorded on November 7, the temperature being 75.8.
The minimum temperature yesterday was 48.0 degrees, exactly the sarnie as on the previous day. The barometer read' 29.94 inches this morning, having fallen from 30.13 inches yesterday.
TO-DAY’S FORECAST.

The Government Meteorologist, at noon to-day, issued the following statement regarding the weather:— General situation: The anticyclone reported recently is centred east of the North Island while a depression is located in the south Tasman Sea. The forecast for the east coast of the South Island from Blenheim to Oamaru is as follows:
Fresh to strong north-westerly winds with a change to southerly, extending over South Canterbury during to-morrow. Weather fine and warm at first but rain developing in the Alps and later extending to the plains with a cool change. Seas slight to moderate.
