PERSONAL.

Messrs D. Hanralian and N. Holmes, of Ashburton, will leave on Saturday evening to take up duty with the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

Mrs A. N. Grigg addressed a meeting of women interested in the National IParty at Temuka this afternoon.

Mr R. Inch, of the department of Agriculture, Ashburton, heft last evening for Wellington, where ho will undergo efficiency tests. He expect? to return to Ashburton on Saturday.

Mr L. W. Christmas (president) will represent the Ashburton grain merchants at the conference of the New Zealand Federation of the Grain, Seed and Produce Merchants to be held in Christchurch to-morrow and Friday.

Mr J. R. Richardson (Borough Council Engineer), who gave his final lecture on sanitation and hygiene to the Hampstead sub-centre of the Red Cross Society last evening, was presented with a book by the president (Mrs K. S. McEachen) in appreciation of his services.

Dr. Janies Hight has deckled to .relinquish the position of Rector of Canterbury College from January 31 next, it was announced at a meeting of the Canterbury College Council. Dr. Hight will retain the Chair of History at the College. Dr. H, G. Denham was elected Rector.

Sergeant-Major G. A. K. Kelly, who is on leave from Papakura Military Camp, was met by members of the St Andrew’s Physical Training Club last evening when the instructor (Mr A. Calder), on behalf of the members, presented him with a leather case of military brushes and comb. Wishes for the recipient’s good health and safe return were expressed. Sergeant-Major Kelly was formerly a leader of the club and was for a tjme its secretary.
