THE £1,000,000 APPEAL.
TOTAL OF £253,000 TO DATE. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, November 22. The £250,000 mark has been passed in the Dominion-wide £1,000,000 patriotic appeal. This announcement was made by the organiser (Mr J. Abel) this afternoon, when he made his second national review of the results- of the campaign. “Looking at the results from a national point of view,” he said, “I am more tlpan satisfied, particularly as a number of major zones are still working along lines the results from which will be slow in coming in.” In giving the provincial totals to date, Mr Abel pointed out that the figures did not give a true index of the money raised, because in some cases they represented only the actual receipts of provincial treasurers, and did not take into account amounts in hand in various zones,- which had not yet been remitted. However, from the figures as supplied to him, the position to date was: Otago. £60,000, Canterbury £51,300, Wellington £40,450, Auckland £40,000, East Coast £22,500, Hawke’s Bay £12,000, Southland £IO,OOO, Nelson £7OOO, Taranaki £4200, Westland £3750, Marlborougjh £2700. Total, £253,900.
