Further details of the heavy bombardment of Lorient, an enemy-occu-pied submarine base on tho coast of Brittany, last night, is given by the Air Ministry news bulletin. The target area included the power station, naval workshops, barracks near a dry dock, shipbuilding slipways and railway approaches to the base. Many tons ol bombs wore dropped on these objectives and tho fires started wore still visible when the aircraft had been flying half an hour on their homeward journeys.
Notwithstanding powerful enemy ground defences, large concentrations of searchlights and attempts atjntereeption by fighters, the raiding force returned without casualty. Coastal Command aircraft bombed tho aerodromes at Abbeville and Lannion. Buildings at the Abbeville landing ground wereset on fire and at Lannion bombs fell while the flarepath was lit and enemy aircraft were taking off. —British Official Wireless.
