RED CROSS FUNDS.

GARDEN PARTY AT LOWCLIFFE A very enjoyable and successful 'garden, party was held at the residence of Mr and Mrs W. H. Simmons on Saturday ini aid of the Lowcliffe Sub-Cen-tre of the Bed Cross Society 1 . Many and varied stalls were arranged amid delightful surroundings. Those in charge of stalls and competitions were Mesdames R. El. Qross, E. S. Baines,, I>. Bain, H. Smyth, Misses J. Simmons, M. McKeage, F. Tait and Mr B. Simmons. Afternoon tea: Mesdames <G. Redd’ecliffe, B. Hawke and F. Clarke. Mr D'. M. Bruce, on behalf of the Red Cross Society, thanked Mr and Mrs and Miss Simmons for their hospitality in opening up their grounds for the garden party and also l for their excellent arrangements. Three hearty cheers wore given. Miss F. Tait also thanked Mrs Simmons and presented her with a posy. Thanks to the kindness of the Simmons family, the local Red Cross will benefit by over £2O. MEETING AT WAKANUI. A meeting of the Wakanui SubCentre of the Red Cross Society was held in the hall recently. . Mrs 1 F. Butterick presided. It was decided to write; thanking the Hal! Society for allowing the use of the hall free for the year. The sum, of £2 was passed for payment on purchase of wool and 16s for a first aid

outfit, to be held by Mrs A. Amos (vice-president) for use in. local emergency or accident. It was decided that the. next meeting be. held on December 5, following which there will be «i recess until after harvest. It was diecidedl to hold the annual meeting before March. A donation of 10s to the Christmas parcels for local men serving overseas was received. Knitted articles, also garments for refugees, were handed in by members. Afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames Cass and Hydes.
