FALSE DECLARATION.

“This man went to the brink of the precipice but did not go right over and commit bigamy,” said counsel (Mr Noble) on behalf of Dick Llewellyn Clardige, aged 36, who came before Mr Justice Fair in the Supreme Court for sentence on an admitted offence of having made a false statement under the Marriage Act. “Why did he do it?” asked his Honor.
Mr Noble said Claridge evidently must have had an idea of committing bigamy, but later telephoned: the Reg r istrar and said he wanted the whole thing cancelled. No harm had been occasioned to the woman, concerned.
His Honoir said that giving false information was always a matter of some seriousness. However, lie thought this case could be met 1>3 T a fine of £ls, in default one month’s imprisonment.
