NARROW ESCAPE.
AT HEIGHT OF THE GALE. SAVED BY BOUNCING TREE. What may be deemed a miraculous escape from at least serious injury, was experienced by an, Anama resident when he was returning from a visit to Mount Somers during the height of. Sunday night’s gale. Having dimmed the lights of his car while passing another car on the eastern side of Mr Grigg’s plantation at Surrey Hills, he recoined a. shock on switching them on full again to see a large tree falling across the road) immediately in front of his car. Although he jammed on the brakes, there seemed little possibility of avoiding a crash into the fallen tree, but as the car slithered forward, the tree, for' somo reason rebounded sufficiently to allow the small car to pass underneath', be foire finally coming to rest in a horizontal position. The car, which finally came to a standstill at right angles to tlhie road, was slightly damaged by a branch reaching from the tree to the roof.
