FIXED DEPOSITS.

SHORT-TERM INTEREST REDUCED (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, September 17. The Associated Banks announce that rates of interest payable on fixed deposits received or renewed on and after September 18 will he as follows: —Three months and under six months, £ per cent.; six months and .under 12 months, 11 per cent.; 12 months and under 24 months, 21 per cent.; 24 months, 2J per cent. The 12 and 24 months’* rates are unchanged, the reduction being in three and six months’ rates, short-term money being unemployable by the banks at the present time. The three and six months’ rates were formerly 11 per cent, and 15 per cent., at which they had stood since November 2, 1934. “
