LAST season UNDER REVIEW. The last, season of the Ashburton Bowling Club is reviewed in the annual report which the secretary (Mr C. J. The report states that the season was a. very successful one and the weather had been exceptionally fine till the end, tho greens having to be closed without any formal ceremony. All the club competitions were finished in good time, the fine weather and the co-oper-ation of members greatly assisting, in this respect. It had bcon found possible to play an extra competition, a. handicap singles, which, had proved to be very popular. Maintenance of the greens had been taken over by the Domain staff, and considering the dry conditions thcgireens played well. The change was substantially to the benefit of the club, enabling it to show a good credit balance. Thanks were due to the Curator (Mr D. H. Leigh) for his interest in the greens and to the green, supervisor (Mr A. Gregory) for his valued assistance. There had been a very good strike of grass on the top ground, which had been closed early, and it should be in the best of condition fo;r the next .season.
IReviewing the play of the season, the report refeys to the fact that TV J. Cameron reached the third round in the Madisoii C'up (champion of champions) competition and won the; singles. Other friendly games had been played and had been much enjoyfed by members.
'Tlie financial position could be considered as very satisfactory. The membership showed, a. large increase and it was hoped to be able to pnaintain this position. Two members (Messrs O. B. Gowans and J. Hardie) bad enlisted and good wishes were extended to thtem.
The question of representation in in-ter-provincial matches had been taken up and there was reason to believe that more consideration would bo given to country players in. future. Reference is made to the death of Mr W. Oakley, a former president and one of the oldest members of the* club. After thanking the ladies for their weak in connection with the afternoon teas, the newspaners for reports of activities and others for assistance, the reports states that the prospects for the coming season are bright and the greens, after special treatment, should he in very good condition.
