THE HOME GUARD.
BRITAIN’S LOCAL DEFENCE. LONDON, July 23. The Secretary of State for War (Mr R. A. Eden) announced in the House of Commons that the Local Defence Volunteers would shortly he given the title of the ‘‘Home Guard” by Order-in-Oouneil. Mr Eden added that he was satisfied that in equipment, efficiency and lighting spirit, the. Home Guard was a valuable addition to the armed forces of the Crown, and a. formidable reinforcement to national security. — British Official Wireless.
GERMAN VITUPERATION.
“BRITISH PEOPLE MURDERERS.” (Received This Day. 9 a.m.) BERLIN. July 24. The radio declares that the British Home Guard is a contravention of international law and'adds that although the British people are misled they arc nevertheless murderers, hut the: members .of the British Government who started such illegal activities are tho vilest criminals of all.
