FLAX DE-SEEDING.

BLENHEIM INVENTION TESTED. (Per Press Association). BLENHEIM, June 27. Close investigations and triais had proved the linen flax deseeding machine, patented by Mr C. J. Lucas, a Blenheim farmer, to be 100 per cent, satisfactory, stated Mr R. B. Tennent (Director of Primary Production). Actually it was a superior machine to those which had been in use in Europe. The New Zealand Government intended to have approximately 50 machines manufactured immediately to cater for deseeding operations throughout the Dominion. Mr Tennent paid a tribute to the pioneering work Mr Lucas and Mr L. C. Chaytor had done in connection with the Jinen flax industry. After an address by Mr Tennent offers were made by farmers to grow another 100 acres of flax, bringing SOO acres in sight out of the total 1000 acres allocated to Marlborough. A generous patriotic gesture was made bv Mr W'. M. Bishell, of Caythorpe, who offered 10 acres free of charge, the proceeds to go to the patriotic Council. They should result in an amount of £l5O to' £2OO.
