THE ASHBURTON COLLECTIONS. TOTAL TO-DAY REACHES £5134. The Sick, Wounded and Distress Fund in Ashburton to-day reached a total of £5134 3s sd. The latest donations are:—

FLEMINGTON-EIF FELTON EFFORT CONCERT YIELDS OVER £4O. The Waterton hall was packed to capacity on Wednesday evening when the “See It Thro’ ” Concert Party presented its non-star* variety programme. The stage with its canopies of flags and the smart red, white and bine costumes of the chorus gave the patriotic setting, which was further emphasised in the patriotic songs interspersed in the programme. At the conclusion of the concert an appeal was made to the audience to do their part to swell the funds and the response was magnificent, £l3 5s being given in a few minutes. On behalf of the residents o| the combined districts of Flemington and Eiffelton. Mr S. P. Taylor thanked and congratulated' the concert party for their splendid programme', making special mention of Mrs N. Chapman (the producer) who, he reminded his audience, had worked for patriotic efforts during the last war'. After supper a dance was held, music being provided by Mr It. Dabourn. As a result of the evening’s effort the Bed Cross Society’s Funds will benefit by. between £4O and £SO.

WESTERFIELD-LAGMHOR WORK. There was a very large attendance at a meeting of the Westenfield-Lag-mhor Sub-Centre of the Red Cross Society. Mrs D. Shaw, who presided, spoke of the need of more women taking up first aid and home nursing. It was arranged that classes bo held. Those willing to adopt children from abroad and those willing to work in the mills were asked to send in their names. Members wishing to help in refugee work were instructed to leave money, woo\ and clothes with the Mayoress of Ashburton (Mrs C. I. Miller). Several members decided to take a course in motor engineering to assist in transport work is needed.
