AIR FORCE TRAINEES.
SPECIAL COURSE IN ASHBURTON. TO BE STARTED ON MONDAY. Seventeen trainees who will later join the Royal New Zealand Air Force will start a special course of training at the Ashburton Technical High School on Monday evening. This course, known as the No. 2 Long Course, will last till December 12, and the trainees will take instruction from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday evenings each week, while a third evening will be devoted to signalling' instruction. This will be given at the Ashburton PostOffice on Thursday evenings.
The instruction has been laid down by the Air Force authorities, who have made all the arrangements and appointed Messrs T. Phillips and D. A. Smith’ as instructors for the Monday and Tuesday sessions. The Thursday evening session will he in the charge of Mr J. Brown (supervisor of telegraphs at the Post Office). At the Technical School the trainees will he given mathematics, mechanics and physics. No enrolments can he accepted at the school. The candidates must apply to the Air Force headquarters at Wellington, and if they are accepted, the Principal of the School (Mr W. Crawford) will be instructed to admit the men to the classes. All the 17 men who are to stark on Monday are from Ashburton Borough. Instruction booklets have already arrived and the trainees will themselves supply other material for use during the course.
