FALSE DECLARATION.
OFFENCE UNDER MARRIAGE ACT (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, June 13. Placed in the dock in the Supreme Court to-day for sentence for making a false declaration under the Marriage act, Elaine Myrtle Thompson, aged 31, fainted when the Judge was emphasising the seriousness of such offences. The prisoner collapsed when his honour indicated that he had decided to grant probation for one year. The prosecutor said that on her way out from England to rejoin her husband, who bad taken his discharge as c seaman and was residing in Christchurch, Thompson fell in love with a naval rating and, when they were planning to marry, gave the wrong information to the Registrar. They did not go through the ceremony of marriage.
