SUFFOCATED IN BED.
DEATH OF ELDERLY WOMAN.
MATTRESS FOUND SMOULDERING
(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCH'UHOH, This Day. When firemen entered a house at 35 Rosewarne Street, Spreydon, at midnight they found a elderly woman, Edith Ellen McLeod, dead in bed, the room being filled with smoke. When the door was burst open the smouldering mattress burst into flames but the fire was quickly suppressed. It is thought that the woman, who was alone in the house, fell asleep while smoking in bed and was suffocated by the smouldering mattress.
