Major R, E*. Liddell and Sirs Liddell left Ashburton to-day for the West Coast to take part in the “Coast for Christ Campaign.”

Miss May Allah, of Ashburton, will be the vocalist at a mid-day music recital at the Canterbury University College Hall on Thursday.

Nurse J. S. Lemon, who has been in charge of the Ashburton West Dental Clinic for the last two years, left this morning on transfer to Invercargill. Nurse M. Craig yesterday took up duty in charge of the clinic at the Borough School in place of Nurse Lemon.

Mr D. McDougall, who has been ranger of tliei Ashburton Acclimatisation Society for a number of years, will relinquish his position on. Fridy. Mr M. M. Orton, who has been assistant ranger for the South Canterbury Acclimatisation Society for the last six years, has been appointed in his place, and will take up duty on Saturday. At the annual meeting of the South Canterbury Society last evening the chairman (Mr J. McDonald) and the cura-tor-ranger (Mr F. W. Pellett) eulogised the services of Mr Orton.

A fountain pen was presented to (Du*. J. Lannon by members of the Ashburton. Hospital Board yesterday as a token of their esteem and as a reminder of his 12 months’ duty as aeting-Medical Superintendent of the Ashbujrton Public Hospital. The presentation was made by the chairman (Mr W. G-. Gallagher) and members of the Board endorsed his remarks. Dr. Lannon, accompanied by Mrs Lannon will kiave Ashburton on Friday on holiday, and next month he will go into camp with the Medical Service.
