FAREWELL SERVICES.
THE REV. L. P. BRYAN. Farewell services were conducted, by tlie Rev. L. P. Bryan at the Ashburton Baptist Church yesterday. There were large congregations in both the morning and evening. Mi 1 Bryan spoke of his ministry in. Ashburton extending ovei’ five years, and the happy associations he had made. He said that in his preaching, above all other things, he had sought to he faithful and to declare the w'hole counsel of God.
Mr Bryan made special reference to the world crisis. The postponing of golf tournaments for one Sunday was pleasing, but they should not take place at all upon the Lord’s Day. What was needed was a more humble spirit, and mqre prayer. ■Special hymns were sung, and prayers for the Empire were offered. The newly-formed junior choir, under Mr Norrish, led the singing in. the morning and in the evening the choir, under Mr Tucker, sang nir anthem. A well-attended communion service closed the day’s services.
