NEW UNIFORMS.
£OR THIRD ECHELON. * » NO BUTTONS TO CLEAN. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON, This Day. , Working to Government \ specifications, New Zealand firms have started to make army uniforms to the pattern of the British battle dress. It is intended to equip all members of the Third Echelon of the Se.cond New Zealand Expeditionary Force with this uniform. “We already have gone into production with this battle dress,” said the Minister of Defence (Mr F. Jones), to-day. “The Government has placed orders for enough for the whole of the Third Echelon, and will continue to manufacture them for all subsequent drafts. Regimental* officers will be issued with the same type of uniforms as the men, but the New Zealanders will retain their distinctive hats. There will be no buttons to clean or the new uniform,, and soldiers going overseas will have one suit of battle dress, one khaki drill uniform, and one suit of working dress or denim.”
