BOWLERS TRIUMPH OVER BATS- , MEN. COUNTY FIGURES FOR SEASON. The 1939-40 senior competition of jdie A Libert on County Cricket Association, so far as actual figures can be relied upon to reveal the trend of play, was one in which bowlers exercised a decided superiority over batsmen. The fact that four bowlers obtained averages under 10, and the best hatting average for more than ten innings was only 38.1 are. proof of this. The highest batting average was obtained hy D. Watt (Kia Ora) with 42.75 runs, but he played only seven innings. The most consistent batsmen of the season were J. M. Hamilton (Ashburton) 32.25, and A. McCormick (Technical) 31.5, who batted in 17 and 15 innings respectively. The best single score was put up by IT. Adams (Technical) 131 not out. In the bowling F, Horgan (Technical) heads the list, having taken 56 wickets at a cost of 7.69 runs a wicket. M. Wall (Technical), A. Doig (Old Boys), and F. Saunders (Kia Ora), all secured an average under 10. G. L. Talbot (Public Works Department) obtained 56 wickets during the season. The leading average are (clubs are indicated as follows: K.O.
