SAVING OF 187 LIVES IN WAR. RESCUE NEAR GERMAN PLANE (Received This Day,.9.35 a.m.) LONDON, January 12. An East-Coast lifeboat which m full view of hundreds of people on tlio (lift's brought safely to port the crew of 30, of an Italian steamer which struck a mine, has now saved 187 men since the war began. The lifehoatmen were standing by the sinking Italian ship when a trawler about a mile away was attacked by bombs and machine-gun fire from a German plane. The lifeboat took the slightly-damaged trawler in tow until it was able to proceed on its way unaided, and then returned to her station with the Italian survivors.—British Official Wireless.
