YOUTH AND WAR.

WELLINGTON METHODISTS’

VIEWS

OPPOSITION IN ASHBURTON.

RESOLUTION BY BIBLE CLASSES

The Ashburton Methodist Young Men’s 'Bible classes, more than 40 strong ill; membership, are l wholeheartedly opposed to the pacifist views expressed at the recent Dominion Convention, at Wellington, and desire definitely to dissociate themselves from the attitude of the Convention. •

At a special meeting the following resolution was carried unanimously:— "That the Ashburton Methodist Young Mon’s Bible classes express their deep regret at the action of the recent Convention in carrying and publishing pronouncedly pacifist recommendations as the finding of the Movement. We are not convinced that the majority of the members of the Methodist Bible classes, hold these views, on the contrary we are fairly certain that the majority are opposed to them, and we think it very unfortunate that the whole Movement should be represented in this one-sided way. "We would point out that while the Church Conference has carried resolutions upon the subject of war and peace it has at no time sent out a one-sided pronouncement upon the non-pacifist side, in fact in every case it has sought to represent fairly both the pacifist and non-pacifist sections of the membership of the Church. <, "We regret that the Convention recommended another course and ignored the existence of non-pacifists of whom there must be large numbers in the membership of the Movement. “We desire definitely to dissociate ourselves from the attitude of the Convention.’
