GRAIN AND PRODUCE. THE CHRISTCHURCH MARKET. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. The rain which fell in most parts of ’ Canterbury this week has relieved the anxiety which was being felt for the welfare of the crops. The fall was a steady one and was more helpful because it was not accompanied by wind. If normal weather follows, over the next few weeks the prospect of a reduced yield should disappear. Growers of spring wheat are particularly glad of the fall, for although their crops have had a bad start they should now be able to make fair progress. Some overseas inquiry for red clover has been received in the Christchurch markets lately, but little business has yet been completed. Trade generally is very quiet, and there have been no al- ' terations in prices. The following quotations are to farmers on trucks at country sidings, unless otherwise indicated:— •' Wheat— Milling, f.0.b., Tuscan 5s lid; Hunters 6s Id; Pearl, 6s 3d. (Final payment of 3d a bushel on all wheat, at the end of year.) Oats—A Gartons 2s 9d to 3s, B Gartons 2s 6d; Algerians 3s to 3s 9d, Buns 3s 6d to 4s 6d. Pollard —Large. £6 5s a ton, small £6 15s. __ SOUTH CANTERBURY MARKET. TIMARU, This Day. • New; potatoes are arriving freely on the South’ Canterbury market, and each week wall see a gradual reduction in price. New potatoes, which are an-iv-ing chiefly from Pukekohe, cost approximately £26 to £2B a ton to land In Timaru. There will possibly be a flight decline in the price next week. During the week there has been a further demand for white oats.. Prices remain firm as the stocks held are on the light side. Ryegrass is still meeting with a good demand. Wheat quotations remain unaltered as follow's:—Tuscan 5s lid a bushel f.0.b., Hunters 6s Id. Velvet 6s 3d. During the week there lias been a further inquiry for oats, and both A’s and B’s showed an' increase of one penny a bushel on trucks. They are now quoted at 3s Id for A’s and 2s lid for B’s. The season for Duns and Algerians has practically finished, and limited stocks are held.

There is no demand for chaff, but it is anticipated that inquiries will be more frequent during December. New potatoes are being offered freely from the North Island. Prices range from £2G to £2B a ton. There is ' still a good demand for seeds, but prices remain unchanged from last week as follows: Hawke’s Bay ..ryegrass, 90 per cent, germination 15s~ fed a bushel on trucks; Canterbury ryegrass, up to 8s Gd a bushel according tp germination; cowgrass f.d. 8d per lb; white clover m.d.
