APPRAISAL OF WOOL.
START AT AUCKLAND. DENIAL OF UNDUE DELAY. (Per Press Association/, WELLINGTON, November 16. A denial that there was any undue delay in commencing the appraisement of wool was expressed by the Minister for Agriculture (the Hon. W. Lee Martin) to-day. The Minister said that the announcement mad© from. Daventry some time ago that an agreement had been reached with the New Zealand Government for ’th© purchase of New Zealand wool at an overall f.o.b. price of 9.8 d (sterling), or approximately 12.25 d (New Zealand) was premature, as at that time negotiations were still being carried on to determine who should pay certain charges in New Zealand. A cablegram completing the matter was' received only op November 4.
The Wool Buyers’ Association, which would be carrying out the appraisement, was notified immediately, and it had since been working continuously to get schedules of types and prices. Thivs work could not be commenced until the purchase price was decided. Arrangements bad been made lor appraisals to be carried out as soon as the schedules were ready. The first appraisal would be made at Auckland, starting on Saturday. “As no sale is ever held in Auckland before November 20, or in Napier before the beginning of December, there is no reason why wool coming into the stores should be causing embarrassment to woolbrokers, who always had to handle equal or even greater quantities to bo ready for the sale at dales later than those on whichi the appraisals will be made,” said Mr Lee Martin.
