JUNIOR COMPETITION OPENS. The competition of the Mid-Canter-bury Lawn Tennis sub-Association was opened on 1 Saturday when matches were played at Ashburton and in country centres! Te Marae B v. Ashburton. Te Marae B beat Ashburton by 11 sets to five, the scores being as follow, Te Marae names first:— Men’s Singles—McPherson beat Denham, 9-5; Nielson lost to Pooley, 8-9; Thomas beat Ewer, 9-4; Emery beat Rooke, 9-4. Women’s Singles—Miss Samuels beat Miss Barker, 7-0; Mrs Stanley beat Mrs Riddell, 7-1; Miss Cambridge beat Mrs Bonifant, 7-4; Mrs Parsons lost to Mrs Hardy, 5-7. Men's Doubles—McPherson and Neilson lost to Denham and Pooley, 6-9; Thomas and Emery beat Ewer and Rooke, 9-1. Women’s Doubles—Miss Samuels and Mrs Stanley lost to Miss Barker and Mrs Riddell, 2-7; Miss Cambridge and Mrs Parsons beat Mesdames Bonifant and Hardy, 7-6. 1 Mixed Doubles—McPherson and Miss Samuels beat Denham and Miss Barker, 9-3; Neilson and Mrs Stanley heat Pooley and Mrs Riddell, 9-3; Thomas and Miss Cambridge beat Ewer and Mrs Bonifant, 9-4; Emery and Mrs Parsons lost J,o Rooke and ,Mr.s Hardy, 4-9.
