POLISH DIVISIONAL COMMANDER DESERTIONS BY SLOVAKS. GUARDS SHOOTTNG ON FRONTIER (Received This Day, 9.10 a.m.) BERLIN, September 7. It is officially stated that General Gosiorowski (commander of the tth Polish Division) has been taken prisoner at Luciabanka. Over 300 Slovak deserters crossed the frontier. They declare that hundreds who have been called up fled. The Hlinka Guards are watching the frontiers and shooting deserters. WESTERPLATTE SURRENDERED. WARSAW STATION BURNING. VISTULA BRIDGES DESTROYED. (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) BERLIN, September 7. The War Ministry announced that the Polish garrison at Westerplatte surrendered at 10.20 a.m. A communique states that Warsaw’s west railway station was bombed, and is now burning. Bridges south from the capital over the Vistula have been destroyed. ADVANCE SLOWED DOWN. SEVERAL COUNTER-ATTACKS. (Received This Day, 9.45 a.m.) PARIS, September 7. The newspaper “Midi” states that the German advance on the northern Polish front has been, slowed down. The invaders are experiencing more and more difficulty. The Poles also counter-attacked on several points. A Berlin communique pays tribute to the courage of the defendei’S.
