WOMEN’S HOCKEY.

RUNNER-UP IN A SECTION. FEILDING BEATS ASHBURTON. (Special to the “Guardian.”) BLENHEIM, September 1. The only match in the women’s championship hockey tournament at Blenheim to-day was that between Feilding and Ashburton, to decide the runner-up to Canterbury in Section A. By winning by 4 goals to 3, Feilding earned the right to meet Wellington in the match for the Holden Cup. Feilding opened the attack, hut E. Jnrv cleared. Ashburton was again pressing but J. Hawke missed. Feilding came away with good .passing into the Ashburton circle, but again the Drowns’ goalie cleared and a good forward movement by J. Lawson and E. Henderson carried play to the Feilding twenty-five, but by good defence play was removed to the centre of the field, where play went down to the Ashburton Circle, Feilding scoring one goal. Feilding again pressed hard, but J. Jary saved well and sent J. Lowe and J. Hawke on the attack, but TJ Henderson failed '.in the circle. A good forward movement by Feilding resulted in the netting of their second goal. Ashburton was now pressing hard but could not score. After up-and-down play Ashburton rallied and after good work U. Henderson opened Ashburton’s score. From the bully Ashburton pressed again and were unfortunate in not scoring. Feilding now livened up and were pressing hard in the Ashburton circle, good work being done by the goalkeeper. From line attack by J. Lawson and U. Henderson, J. Hawke scored Ashburton’s second goal. From the fully Ashburton attacked hard but could not penetrate the defence. From a corner hit U. Henderson scored. At half-time the score was: Feilding 3 Ashburton .... ... ... 3 From the first bully in the second spell Feilding went away with a good movement but Ashburton replied and carried play to the Feilding twenty-five, but soon play was reversed and resulted in Feilding scoring their fourth goal. Up-and-down play followed. Ashburton attacked hard but J. Hawke missed a good shot. Again coming away, J. Hawke was ruled offside and missed a second shot at goal. Play in this half was not so brilliant and the game ended Feilding 4 Ashburton .... 3 ' The team was: U. Wilson, U. Watson, E. Jary, W. Lowe, R. Donaldson, J. Jary, J. Lawson, IT. Henderson, J. Hawke, E. Anderson.and J. Lowe. F. Gudsell, who was injured in the match against Canterbury, was unable to play. The first spell of the match was played in rain.
