MAORIS’ BIG CLAIM.
SUM OF £90,000 INVOLVED. LAND AND GOLD REVENUE,. (Per Press Association). AUCKLAND, August 30. The claims of natives from Thames and Coromandel and Thames Valleys for land and gold revenue dating back to 1851, and involving a sum approaching- £90,009, are being heard in the Native Land Court at Auckland before Judge MaeCormick. The Crown is represented by Mr J. Prenderville, of the Crown Law Office, Wellington, and Mr V. R. Meredith, of Auckland. Mr J. J. Sullivan is representing. about. 500. .. Maoris. , .... Timother Maoris are represented by MvHV O. Cooney, of Tauranga, and Mr T. C. Thompson, of Auckland. The hearing was begun some months ago, and the last hearing was at Thames in March of this year. The hearing.at Auckland has already occupied two days. At the last sitting of the Court Air Prenderville suggested that the Crown prepare a statement of all receipts, and expenditure on all matters in the petition and submit this to the Court. As this would take some time, the con- . elusion of the hearing was adjourned. Legal argument was heard to-day and will be continued to-morrow.
