THE BARING SQUARE CIRCUIT.
SOUND FINANCIAL POSITION.
The facts that collections in the last three months had totalled £lB5 2s Btl, that Home Mission collections' had reached £BS, and that there was a credit balance'on the working of the period, were reported to the quarterly meeting of the Baring .Square Methodist Church Circuit last evening, when the Rev. Angus Mcßean presided over a large attendance. Motions of sympathy were accorded Miss Dalton in the death of her brother, Mr and Mrs uverr and Miss Kerr in the death of mr Robert Kerr, Mrs W. Jewell in the death of her sister, Mrs- Anderson in the death of her husband, and with the relatives of the late Mrs Grigs, of New Brighton. It was reported that the membership was 310, about the same as at the last quarterly meeting. . A deputation representing the Ra-kaia-Methven Circuit waited on the meeting to suggest that the circuit should be amalgamated with the Baring Square Circuit, and after discussion it was decided to explore the possibilities of enhancing the financial position without bringing about an amalgamation.
A suggestion by Mr S. G. Macfarlane that the budget system of finance should be adopted in the circuit was discussed but was not adopted. It was agreed that the car allowance for the minister should be substantially increased.
It was reported that Synod would meet at Ashburton on November 14, 15 and 16. A Synod service would be held on the Tuesday evening and a welcome social would bo tendered to delegates on tho following evening, A hospitality committeo comprising Sister Mildred, Mrs N. AV. Corbett and Miss E. A. AVatson, was set up to investigate the question of the accomniodation of delegates. The next meeting .was fixed for October 11.
Supper was provided by. the ladies, to whom a vote of thanks was accorded on tho motion of Mr L. Stone.
